Coco Bean came to us in early 2024 having developed Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) and Equine Cushing’s disease with bouts of laminitis.
This is sadly not an unusual scenario for Shetlands.
His owners loved him dearly but the restrictions to his lifestyle because of disease, had led to difficulty in handling and aggressive behaviours.
Everyone became quite scared of his unpredictable outbursts - especially when he became excited to be out in a field.
They had tried their best to manage him appropriately but recognised that they lacked the experience needed.
With additional issues to deal with, they contacted us in desperation.
Unfortunately, because of our precarious financial position, we were only able to offer help, with an agreement to cover most of his costs long term.
He is definitely a bit of a terrorist but has thankfully been fit and well since arrival.
We are still working on his ‘attitude adjustment’ - he thinks he is the main man and will challenge any other horse to a duel no matter their size.
