Story

With two days before the first ride we have broken our target, thanks to our supporters!  The target has been raised in true Axis style!

On September 21st Team Axis embark on the Ardennes Extra Mile Challenge.

Our route is mostly on quiet rural roads, this year in the French/Belgian border area of the Ardennes.

On Day 1 we ride 176 miles with 7,500ft of elevations (max gradient 9%), the route heads south through much open farmland and through many very quiet villages in rural France to just south of Laon, circling around this old city and then back.

Day 2 we ride 169 miles with 9,600ft elevations (max gradient 9%), a very different terrain as we head south east from Valenciennes through the Parc Naturel Régional de L’Avesnois and then the Parc Naturel Régional des Ardennes. During the first 100 miles we will cross the French/Belgian border four times before heading north towards Namur. With 50 miles to go we make our final crossing into Belgium, the country for the remainder of the challenge. Much more forestry and hence almost inevitably more hills and climbs..

Day 3 and our final day, we ride for 158 miles to the finish with elevations of 10,800ft (max gradient 10%). Its fewer miles but its more hills, 16 in total!! We again use the banks of the Meuse from the start and to the finish, once across the Meuse we head east through quiet rural Belgium following a number of valley roads (and most are following the rivers downstream – that’s good planning!).

Both teams will cover 503 miles each.

Two teams have been entered:

Team Axis - Howard Phillips, Stuart Hill, Sean Robertson and Phil Inness

Team Cicor - David Carty, Jack Symonds, Mat Williams and Peter Neumann

We've set an initial fundraising target of £5,000, and will be supporting the charity below which is important to the staff at Axis Electronics, as well the Extra Mile cause.
