Strictly Oxford 2023, 27th May

My (Trisha’s) mother died of cancer in 2019. Throughout her last 16 months she was in a lot of discomfort, and in and out of hospital for long periods. In her last two weeks, when she lay in hospital, knowing that the end was near, her very words were ‘I have nothing to look forward to’. I already knew that my son had arranged to fly out from America, but hadn’t wanted to say anything in advance. But I decided then to tell her, and she said ‘Now I have something to look forward to’. He arrived a week before she passed. He asked her what was one bit of advice she would give, and she replied ‘just be loving and kind’. We hope that our fundraising will be an act of loving kindness that will give someone with cancer ‘something to look forward to’.
