Story

Yup, that's right. I'll be running the Virtual London Marathon on 2nd October. Being a keen walker this is the ideal step up to push me even further, get fit, and support a wonderful charity that does incredible work to improve the lives of children and their families in Kenya.

A marathon is 26.2 miles on the day. But the training is way more! Over 16 weeks I'll be pounding the streets to increase my mileage and improve my speed. It will be a huge test of my strength, mentally and physically. If you feel happy to support me please give generously and help me to help others.

All the money raised in the marathon will be used to help very poor people in Kenya with education, toilets, better housing, medical treatment, food and clothing. 100% of all funds donated will be used on the ground and nothing will go towards admin costs.

Updates

11th June Another Saturday training run with the group.

We had scorching heat and by mile two, I was ready to turn back but I cut the negative thinking & started little goals. The next lamp post, overtake this dog walker etc

Before you know it mile 5 was coming up and a walker overtook me! I was shocked! How can that be? I asked him. He shouted back that he surpasses most runners and had been speed walking for 7 years! Wow, that positive thinking stayed with me for the next mile.

At mile 6 we caught up with Paren, he was running his longest mileage and doing so well!

As we got to Stanmore Hill my legs started giving way and we walked for 10 minutes. As we got to Wood Lane I tried to run, but my body, nay my legs, said no.

I started walking quicker and ran the last 100 metres right to car park 2 where we finished. Group support rocks!

4 June - The first training run, a 10k with Piyushbhai, Ajay, Bina and Kamini. Everyone completed it! Running in a group is totally game changing! This is the furthest I'd run without a walking break - almost 6miles, 10k! So chuffed :-)

Supporting

Help Change Lives

Help Change Lives is a UK charity whose purpose is the prevention or relief of poverty worldwide. We are regulated by the UK Charities Commission and are registered with HMRC for Gift Aid.

We support underprivileged families and children directly in Kenya, providing education and vocational skills, food, water, clothing, shelter, health aids, income generating opportunities and counselling.

We distribute reusable pad kits along with education to help reduce period poverty, and aim to expand this to other countries. We are refurbishing a large run-down school in Nairobi's Kangemi slum.

We also support projects in Kenya, India, Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia and Malawi by working in partnership with other trusted charities and individuals to enable us to increase our scale and impact. Our focus so far has been on helping street children, differently abled children, providing Covid food and hygiene support, supporting school feeding programmes and providing books to schools.

All the work in the UK is done by volunteers. We have very low admin costs that are covered in full by trustee donations. Our website is www.helpchangelives.org.uk and we are also active on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. Thank you so much for your support.
