Neil and I are going to complete a 5k run on Friday February 2nd 2024 to raise money for Calderwood. I work at Calderwood House as a Senior Support Worker and have done for 7 years now.
Neil approached me about the idea of doing a fundraiser for the hostel a while ago and I suggested a run to celebrate the completion of his 90 day boot camp with Xtreme Fitness.
Neil is passionate about raising money and awareness of Calderwood House - he said " Calderwood has saved my life - I've been in a really dark place for a very long time and Calderwood and the staff there have shown me that I can be sober and stay sober after 20 years of addiction".
This is Neil's third placement with us, he said about his previous placements " when I look back now at my other times in Calderwood, I wasn't ready to change. That's the great thing about Calderwood, they give you the tools to change your life but if at the time you aren't ready, they don't turn their backs on you. I've been given 3 opportunities, I messed up twice but never felt judgement when I was given the next chance. I'm now ready to make the change I need to succeed in my life and I feel fully supported to make it happen".
Neil said "I really want to give something back to Calderwood and the amazing team that work there. That is why I am doing this run. I want to make them proud and I want, in some small way to thank each and every person that has supported me to get to where I am now. I'm running with one of my support workers, Rebecca who will be by my side on the day as every member of staff has been by side through the worst time of my life, I really wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for them so please support Calderwood and this fundraiser !"
