CODEP is a small scale grassroots charity helping improve education for children and adults in Waterloo, Sierra Leone. To raise funds for CODEP we are running Leg it For Learning - a challenge to as a team cumulatively cover 4800km over the space of three weeks in May - averaging 1,000 miles a week! Why 4800km? It’s the distance from Waterloo, UK to Waterloo, Sierra Leone, where the CODEP library is.
The distance can be covered by any human-powered means - walking, cycling, rowing… however you prefer. Each member of our team has set themselves a personal challenge to help raise money directly for CODEP.
CODEP is an amazing charity that started as a library built in 2008 and has since grown to be a community hub that supports over 50 local primary schools, provides adult literacy classes and aims to improve literacy in a country with an adult literacy rate of 43% (i.e. 43% of people aged 15 and above can both read and write a short simple statement about their everyday life). The Sierra Leonian CODEP team also regularly organise literacy festivals, reading competitions and even baby massage classes.
For every child that has already had their life changed by this simple but wonderful library, and for every child that will – thank you for your donation.
