The West's rapid withdrawal from Afghanistan saw many who had helped support freedom of expression left behind to face the wrath of the Taliban. Many of these were journalists. They have since been stripped of their means of survival. They are out of work, destitute and in imminent danger.
People such as Hasib, scraping a living in Kabul selling bottles and cans found in the back alleys; Mahtab, stuck in Pakistan and afraid to leave her home due to the Taliban and sexual violence; Sami, also in Pakistan and in such a desperate state that he plans to sell a kidney for money.
These are just some of the people in touch with Index on a daily basis, begging for support. Your donations can help people like Hasib, Mahtab and Sami (whose names have been changed to protect their identities).
Just £10 could provide vital supplies for a week; £50 could help fund a visa application; £100+ can go towards their airfare when they are granted asylum in a safe country.
All proceeds will go directly to our network of Afghan journalists still in the country or in desperate situations elsewhere. Help us help them.
