Once upon a time, in April 2019, I entered the ballot for a place in the London Marathon for 2020. When I was unsuccessful in the ballot, I decided to run for a smaller, local charity. Headway East Northants is a fabulous charity that helps people with an acquired brain injury and also supports their family.
My training and fundraising went very well, andI just completed my final long run in March when the Marathon was cancelled due to Covid. I continued to maintain my running fitness as much as possible during the subsequent lockdown and completed lots of Virtual events. Then it was announced that we could run a Virtual London Marathon, so I did! Running my first marathon, with no London crowd and in appalling weather, was probably the hardest thing I have done and although I did it, I still want to experience the London Maraathon mass of runners IN London.
I was able to defer the actual place to April ‘22, but that was then changed to October 22. According to my Countdown Timer, I will finally get to run the marathon in London in 271 days!!
I have already raised funds for the original race, and I would really like to raise some more to reflect the three years of training that will have gone into this effort. I was only ever going to do one marathon!
I really hope you can support Headway EN as I attempt to double my original target
Thank you
