As most of you may know, I have decided to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands at 5895 m above sea level, with my sister to celebrate turning 50 this year.
While preparing for this adventure, I came across the amazing Para Monte charity and I decided to raise funds for them. The charity was set up by the lovely Savory family from Eastbourne in memory of their son and brother Adam, a fit healthy 25 year old young man, who lost his life to Altitude Sickness whilst travelling in Peru. They think that his death should not be in vain and they feel extremely passionate about spreading the word about Altitude Illnesses globally, to ensure that people become more aware of the risks and dangers at altitude. They achieve that by raising awareness through different educational programmes and initiatives.
I was invited to an education awareness day at Eastbourne university where I learnt a lot about the risk of high altitude, the symptoms of altitude sickness and what to do when they occur. I also had the opportunity walk on a treadmill in an altitude simulation chamber. All of it was funded by Para Monte. I also had the honour to meet the amazing Chris and Jeannet who are truly passionate about their cause and about educating as many people as they can about altitude illnesses.
If you have a few spare pennies, please donate to support Chris and Jeannet on their mission. You can also check their website if you want to learn more about altitude illnesses and the charity activities to raise awareness.
Thank you
Anne
