I am Amelia. I am nearly 11yrs old and I have Developmental Language Disorder. This means I struggle to understand and use spoken language. When I was very little, I took a long time to develop any language at all, and I needed a lot of help to learn what words meant. Now I’m older, I understand language a lot better, but I do still struggle at times.
DLD makes lots of things more difficult - we use language for learning, socialising, relaxing and even just working out what to do next. And it’s more common than you might think - 1 in 14 people have DLD! Afasic supports families like mine - families who have children with speech, language and communication needs - including DLD. With the right help children and young people with DLD can do amazing things.
I will be walking 50 miles over the month of February… while some of this might include my walk to school, I’m going to have to do a lot of extra walking to hit my 50 mile target. Your donations will help Afasic to continue the work they do supporting families of children just like me.
