My name is Steve and I have a son Archie Hallett who was born with TOF/OA over 5 years ago!
I’m riding in the RideLondon100 on the 29th May 2022 to combine my love of cycling and to support the TOFs charity . The TOFs charity have been of great support network not only for Archie but for his mummy and I! Like many families and individuals I did not know what TOF was and was unsure on how this was going to impact Archie and consequently our lives.
Archie was born premature with undiagnosed TOF/ OA; unable to breathe or swallow for himself. Within 3 hours, he was transferred to The Royal London, Whitechapel for lifesaving surgery. The first few weeks of his life in an induced coma and then a couple of weeks later I was finally able to hold him. We came home on CPAP & NG feeds 2 months later.
At 7 months old Archies mummy had to give him CPR - he was then diagnosed with severe tracheomalacia - this resulted in emergency heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Archie is a happy boy who started school this year and is thriving. So many people often say you wouldn’t know there is anything wrong with him as he is she a happy, confident boy!
Lastly to Archie you inspire so many people and you will be on my mind throughout this 100mill cycle. See you at the finish x
