About

SFRS D&G personnel have entered the Moffat Gala 15k (9.3miles) run on the 9th of July in aid of SFRS Family Support Trust and Dumfries & Galloway Sands Local Support Group. Its 7 years since we last attempted this event - we may be older, but possibly not wiser! This is a road/hill race in three parts, none of them particularly enjoyable for a on/off jogger.

This year we have chosen two charities which focus on family support and assistance, that have been there for our personnel and their loved ones.

Dumfries and Galloway Sands is a charity close to our hearts following the tragic loss of Olivia Kerr at a day old in May 2016, and mum Ashley is now a support volunteer there to help other parents through the darkness and pain that follows. On the night we will run in Olivia's name, but we are running for all the babies lost.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Family Support Trust established in 1923 benefits Service personnel, retired members and their families by providing a range of financial assistance and respite accommodation here in Portpatrick. (Also available to “Rent and Donate”).

We aim to take on this personal challenge in order to raise awareness of the good work the charities do in our region and hopefully some money to help them continue to do so.

Thank you!

SFRS Family Support Trust

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Family Support Trust (established 1923), is the oldest Fire & Rescue charity in the UK. We enjoy a unique position as the only Fire Service charity, run within a specific Fire and Rescue Service, for the benefit of Service personnel and retired members and their families. We help serving & retired Fire Service personnel & their families, in times of need. Our charitable services include: welfare grants, information, support and usage of our respite facilities, for rest and recuperation, following illness, injury or bereavement. We receive no regular grant funding and we rely heavily on financial donations and the fundraising efforts of members of the Fire Service and the general public. We continually strive to ensure the best use of our charitable resources. We organise social and fundraising events and activities throughout the year, to help raise awareness of the good work of our Charity and to engage with our beneficiaries and supporters. Our Charity is managed by a small, professional, Staff team and a Board of Volunteer Trustees. We report annually to OSCR, (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator).
