About

We RESTORE hope, faith and happiness in our communities. We do this by building a community of people around our shops. We help relieve poverty by reselling pre-owned household items, generating money to support local RESTORE community projects and providing opportunities for people who need help most by providing recycled furniture, clothes, crockery, kitchenware, childrens toys and other items to people in need. We help people who may be struggling financially or quite often, struggling with their mental health. Our four charity shops in Carlisle and Penrith are also social hubs, reconnecting people with their community and breaking down the barriers of loneliness and isolation. As well as becoming part of the team in the shops people can join us in community meals, dig in on the community allotment, or participate in our Men in Sheds project. Not just focussed on our own area we collect and distribute food, sleeping bags and warm, clean clothing for homeless people and liase with groups to supply refugees in need.

Restore Cumbria

Our mission

At the heart of Restore we are helping to build communities and learning to share life together. We have a weekly rhythm of working in the shops, playing, making things, growing things, daily prayer, sharing meals. We seek to follow the example and way of Jesus through:

Hospitality: Building friendships of mutuality, kindness and dignity.

Simplicity: Learning how to share economic resources and to be community sufficient.

Peace: Challenging violence of every kind, pursuing peace and committing to conflict resolution.

Resistance: Seeking to challenge unjust structures of society, while embodying hopeful alternatives.

Prayer: Developing life-giving spiritual practices.
