Kirklees Youth Alliance
Kirklees Youth Alliance (KYA) is a community youth work infrastructure support organisation set up to ultimately help children and young people in the Kirklees area of West Yorkshire develop and fulfil their potential, identify and realise their ambitions and contribute positively to their local communities. It does this by supporting the development of good quality activities, giving children and young people aged over 8 years ?somewhere to go, something to do and someone to speak to?. KYA supports a network of over 120 local youth organisations by facilitating regular networking events, running and promoting training, informing the organisations about funding and other opportunities and sharing national, regional and local youth work news. We also act as the voice for the sector at local and regional strategic partnership meetings and events. Finally, KYA generates funding for, and co-ordinates the delivery of, programmes designed to meet the needs of local children and young people in their lives outside of formal education e.g. the Healthy Holiday Programme which includes holiday activity clubs and the provision of healthy food. Having built relationships over its first three years with youth organisations and statutory partners and having successfully delivered the Healthy Holidays Programme for two years, KYA is now ready to start working with community partners to develop term time opportunities for young people. In 2021 we plan to develop and support youth projects in Batley as well as two of our more rural communities in the Colne Valley and Holme Valley. These projects will be youth-led and will aim to be as inclusive as possible.
