Hey all!
On 6th June we will be setting off by bike from the UK to Greece. The journey itself will be around 2000 miles taking us through France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania. This is all in aid of the MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity.
In Jeremy's words...
'MND is a devastating condition which progressively shuts down the body as it weakens the muscles. My mum, Clare, was diagnosed with the condition in 2017 and quickly lost her ability to walk, move her arms, hold her head up unassisted, eat or drink through her mouth or even speak.
The same year my Dad, Giles, was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Brain Tumour. Like MND, Brain Tumours quickly attack the body. For Giles, this led to progressive weakness on one side of his body, seizures and significant behavioural changes.
Through it all, they remained the most loving, selfless and compassionate parents and friends anyone could've imagined.
Very sadly, in 2018-19 Giles and Clare passed away 7 months apart. The MND Association and the Brain Tumour Charity are the two organisations leading the research into these two conditions and both charities provide the most incredible support.'
We'll be venturing off for the challenge with a tent and we'll spend the bulk of the trip either camping or sofa surfing. The plan is to be gone for around 10 weeks and we'll be back at the end of the summer break (better late than feta). By August, temperatures in the Balkans could be reaching around 40C but we should have a good bit of time to take it all in!
Every penny will be split 50/50 between the two charities. Give @Tourdefullenglish a follow on Instagram if you fancy keeping updated with the trip.
A massive thanks for having a read!
Jeremy and Lottie
