ADAPT Prembabies Supports parents and families of premature and poorly babies needing specialist neonatal care in Leicester. There is no disputing the fact that the babies get the best clinical care but for the parents its a different story not knowing from day to day sometimes hour to hour whether their baby will survive, this is where the ADAPT support steps in to help them through the rollercoaster journey at one of the most emotional and traumatic times of their lives.
ADAPT have two Family Support Workers. We have one Family Support Worker based on the neonatal units of the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital and another Family Support Worker providing Support Groups throughout Leicestershire.
In the first instance, we have our Neonatal Unit family support worker who is based on the Neonatal Units and is actively there to help parents of premature and poorly babies with any aspect of their time on the unit and when they go home. We provide a "baby pack" with helpful information and an ADAPT teddy and knitted triangle comforters.
Continuing the support outside of the NNU, InBetweenies is co-ordinated and attended by our additional Family Support Worker. Here we offer families that have been through the experience of being on the NeoNatal Unit a chance to share their story. We offer support and advice on life outside of the NNU with a baby that may require additional support whether that be with sensory support, oxygen support or emotional support for the parents. It is a chance for parents to speak with like minded individuals, with no judgement and lots of positive encouragement.
We receive no funding from the Government, NHS or the Neonatal Units and rely on donations and fundraising events to continue supporting the families of premature and poorly babies.
