About

For as little as a fiver you can send 1 Christmas card to 1000 care homes, and warm the hearts of many lonely elderly people this Christmas.

During the pandemic our volunteers could not go into care homes. We supported locked-down residents by getting our young people to write letters, create activities and make videos.

This led to us supporting thousands of care homes across the UK and even a few abroad.

We want to send at least 1000 of these care homes a Christmas card from all our supporters - with your best wishes.

Please donate at least £5 and write your message in the comments. We will collate all the messages to add to one digital card and send these to the care homes.

YOPEY will be doing everything digitally to keep our carbon footprint as small as possible.

If you are a care home that would like to receive this special digital card, email the name, town and very importantly email address of the home to hello@yopey.org.

Yopey has a small but inclusive team of adults. This card was designed by a professional graphic designer who is a stroke survivor and insists on working with us as a volunteer.

Your donation will help fund our work. We recruit, train and support young people to visit lonely care home residents weekly. Both generations benefit: The elderly get companionship, the young learn life lessons. Everyone makes friends!

Research has found that, in some care homes, residents with dementia have as little as 2 minutes of social interaction a day. The University of Exeter found that the lives of residents with dementia is improved with just 1 hour of social interaction a week. That’s the minimum time our young volunteers give!

Supporting

YOPEY

YOPEY runs befriending partnerships between schools and care homes. We inspire young people – usually sixth-formers but we have worked with other ages – to visit elderly people living in care homes. As many care home residents have dementia, we train our young volunteers – known as YOPEY Befrienders – to relate to elderly people living with dementia diseases.

Your donation will help fund our work. We recruit, train and support young people to visit lonely care home residents weekly. Both generations benefit: The elderly get companionship, the young learn life lessons. Everyone makes friends!

Previous research has found that, in some care homes, residents with dementia have as little as two minutes of social interaction a day. Recent research by the University of Exeter, King’s College London and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust found that the lives of residents with dementia is improved with just one hour of social interaction a week. The residents quality of life is improved and they are less agitated and aggressive. One hour is the minimum amount of time our young volunteers give the elderly each week!
