About

It’s been one of the most challenging years yet for trans rights, with rising hostility and attacks on our community.

Last year, Walthamstow Trans Pride made local history with the borough’s first ever Trans Pride, raising over £2,000 for The Outside Project.

This year, we want to come back bigger, louder, and prouder — and one way we’re doing that is with a fundraising raffle!

The Outside Project is the UK’s first LGBTQ+ crisis and homeless shelter, centre, and community hub. With winter approaching, their work is more vital than ever. Almost one in five trans people have experienced homelessness, often after rejection from family or unsafe living situations. The Outside Project offers not only a safe place to sleep, but also care, advocacy, and a community that understands.

🎟 Every raffle ticket you buy helps to support this life-saving work, and helps secure the future of Walthamstow Trans Pride, so we can keep showing up for our community. Thank you for standing with us 🏳️‍⚧️

Supporting

The Outside Project

The UK’s first LGBTIQ+ Community Shelter and Centre. A grassroots movement led by LGBTIQ+ ex-homeless, homelessness professionals and activists.

In winter 2017 we opened the UK’s first LGBTIQ+ Shelter. In Spring 2019 we opened our Community Centre in Central London, just a stones throw from the Lesbian and Gay Centre of the 80’s. Over 7000sqft of open, office and residential space, this unique and innovative project is home to our shelter and the support, creative and activist groups we work alongside.

During the 50th anniversary year of the Stonewall Riots it is fitting to flip the narrative, centring our homeless siblings and those who feel left outside of mainstream and LGBTIQ+ spaces. The centre and shelter has made an immeasurable difference to our guests who will always be loudly and proudly at the centre of this project. We’re grateful for the support from the Mayor of London and our LGBTIQ+ community and allies across the country. We can’t thank you enough for standing beside us.

 Carla Ecola, Founder and Director.

Books From Boxes £20 voucher

We’re an independent bookshop in Walthamstow, London, with a handpicked mix of new and pre-loved books. Started by readers, writers, and artists who didn’t want bookshops to become branded showrooms, we’re here for connection over consumption and culture over capital. This place exists because local matters—and because bookshops should still mean something.

Just before the global pandemic in 2020, I moved from Stockport to Eastbourne to begin working at Burning Sky, a small brewery based in Firle, East Sussex. This move enabled me to first come out as a queer person, and eventually, as trans. Everyone's journey is unique. Today, it's vital for us to show up for each other and to support each other – I hope these bottles will raise a lot of money for The Outside Project. None of us are free until all of us are free.

With each kg of coffee sold, we contribute 30p to the Outside Project, to help them to continue providing support to the LGBTIQ+ community.
