On September 7th 2014 Daniel Jones took his life at 42 years old. Daniel was and is, a much loved son, husband, father, brother and friend. His legacy and memory lives on through all the people who knew him and all the wonderful stories that are shared about him.
The sad loss of Daniel is now part of a wider, national picture which now sees 78% of deaths annually in men between the ages of 29-49 through suicide (13 suicides daily). This situation is echoed in current research by the Samaritans which shows that nationally men are 4 times more likely to take their life. In Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent this situation is no different with similar figures as the national average.
Since October 2014, Dan's brother, sister, family and his closest friends have created fundraising events including an annual golf event that celebrates Daniel's life, and is at the forefront raising awareness of mental health issues. The family continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity, unwavering support and help they receive in continuing to raise awareness of stress, anxiety, depression and suicide.
Up to end of December 2023, £50,601.79 has been raised in total and that has provided 590 free crisis counselling sessions and a counselling centre in Blaenavon. In addition 20 people have received free training in Mental Health First Aid.
All donations go to the charity Torfaen & Blaenau Gwent Mind that provides mental health support services across communities in both counties.
